who knew grannie: a dub aria

Costume and Set Design

a dub aria in several movements hinging on family ties vested in a generation of cousins “each attempting to hold onto themselves all the while celebrating/ mourning/ transporting/ grasping/ saying so long grannie/ forever/ in their hearts…”

Set Design notes. The story unfolds between the cousins’ realtime and grannie’s magical cross-over space. The set is an abstract playground of twisted ropes and scattered memories. “grannie invokes the sankofa to get their attention/ bring them together/ rope them een,” catching all in their emotional flight.

Costume Design notes. Done in the same colourful palette, time shifts are allowed to play.
